He discovers he has a powerful gift - he is a Nature Mage, able to control natural forces and creatures and bend them to his will. It is a rare gift, and no-one has been born with it in centuries, but Gaspi's powers also have a dark side, and without training they will kill him. He is forced to leave his home and travel to the distant city of Helioport, where the Archmages of the College of Collective Magicks will teach him how to use his powers. Accompanied by his guardian and his best friends, Gaspi sets off on the long journey to Helioport. The journey is fraught with danger, and Gaspi and his friends discover that there are demonic creatures abroad, intent on finding and killing anyone with magical ability. As Gaspi begins his magical studies, a shadow hangs over him and over the city of magicians. Gaspi's story of a demonic attack is not an isolated incident. As these stories increase, Hephistole, the Chancellor of the college, is growing increasingly certain that someone or something is directing the demonic forces, but who, and to what end? As things unfold, Gaspi finds himself in the middle of dark and terrible times, and can only hope that his powerful gift will develop in time to make a difference when the time comes.

  • Woodsy

    Michael Tolkien

Hardcover (New Generation Publishing, March 26, 2014)
Woodsies can take on any human shape, and have appeared in larger and finer forms than we can ever hope to have, though mostly they just need well-disguised bodies strong enough to care for plants that like wood-filtered light. They are mainly practical, wise, and helpful, but all families have misfits and trouble-makers and sometimes young woodsies like Leaf-lag won't grow up and have to learn the hard way. This rebellious, 'ne'er-dowell' woodsy only half listens to his lessons and training, and after idling his way through summer is frightened to face a season of work to make up for this during the warm and secure underground winter festivities. He decides to go his own way, but the cold and hunger are too much for him, so he takes refuge in a dolls' house inside the playroom of a large house. The two young children, whose noise and size at first terrify the visitor, are delighted with his presence, a secret close-kept from adults. But because he has not paid full attention to his training, every trick he plays to show off cannot be reversed, and this gets his friends into more and more trouble. He becomes disruptive, selfish, isolated and cowers away in fear of being trapped. After many adventures, including a night in a mouse trap, he has to make for the closed doors of the winter palace, beg for admittance and face up to the discipline of his teachers. Born in Birmingham in 1943, Michael Tolkien grew up in rural South Oxfordshire and North Yorkshire. He studied classics and English at St Andrews and Oxford. Settled in Rutland since 1968, he worked as a secondary school teacher until early retirement in 1994. His verse has been published in two booklets and five full collections, which have been widely and favourably reviewed. He recently adapted and developed two tales by Florence Bone, a forgotten children's writer. He presented his versions in narrative verse as Wish and Rainbow. This new tale for younger readers is similarly adapted from the work of Hilda Adshead's now rare little book, The Idle Fairy.

  • The Desolate Garden

    Danny Kemp

Hardcover (New Generation Publishing, June 20, 2012)
The Desolate Garden is centred on one family, the Earls of Harrogate who, since its inauguration, have been the sole custodians of a secret Government bank now situated in London's Queen Anne's Gate and affectionately known as; Annies. In 2007, on his appointment to the running of that bank, Lord Elliot Paterson discovers, in a hidden ledger, an address in Leningrad, Russia, some initials and a missing fortune of money disappearing over a period of some years. He suspects his grandfather, Maudlin, has been funding a Russian spy!Elliot telephones his estranged eldest son, Harry, to tell of his worries and six months later is found shot dead in the London town house in Eton Square.Harry, already an employee of the British Intelligence Service, is recalled to London from the vast family estate in Yorkshire. He seemingly meets by accident a 'stick insect' of a woman, Judith Meadows, in the world famous Martini Bar at Duke's Hotel, St James's.She greats his appearance by asking to be told a joke; "Tell me a joke, I've had a really shitty day and need cheering up."Harry thinks that he's being chatted up, but that's not the case. She knows more about his family than he does, and neither of them want to readily disclose their knowledge to each other! It is the interaction between these two that tells the story, and it was this dialogue that caught the attention of the CEO of a London Film Production Company, prompting their decision to buy the option to film The Desolate Garden. That option has now been renewed, twice. This political thriller resonates with charm, deft touches of satire, and romantic entanglement and where the promise of rampant sex is a turn of the page away. At 331 pages, The Desolate Garden is suitable for all age groups and lovers of an old fashion story, where there is no sex nor graphic violence..www-thedesolategarden-com.co.uk/
